Pinephone Beta

The Pinephone is entering its beta phase! It can be pre-ordered in two different configurations starting March 24.

For the last little while the good folks at Pine64 have been releasing Pinephone "community editions". Each release came preinstalled with a different up and coming mobile OS. Versions of the Pinephone were available with software such as Ubuntu Touch, postmarketOS, Manjaro with Plasma Mobile, and Mobian. I didn't have too much interest in any of those models as they all seemed a little too early software wise to use as my main phone.

In the beta edition they have decided to go with Plasma Mobile and Manjaro ARM as the default software. Looking into things a little bit makes it seem like the software isn't quite ready to be a daily driver although it sure looks fun to tinker with! I'm really looking forward to the day I can purchase one of these phones with the peace of mind that it will fulfill all of my phone related needs and Pine64 seems to be getting closer to that all the time.

Hopefully I can keep my current phone alive long enough that the Pinephone with be a good option for my next mobile device purchase. I'm not a huge fan of the current phone OS options.

This is my day 77 post for #100daystooffload
